The Pagan Unity Campaign is getting all fired up for the "So Vote It Be"
campaign. "So Vote It Be" is PUC's voter education and registration drive
that we launched on July 4th, 2002 and it has been on-going building up to
Election Day on Nov. 2nd, 2004, when we hope the voice of Pagan voters is
    heard reverberating all across America!

In this most important election of our lifetimes, apathy is not an option
for Pagans any longer! Too much is at stake when our elected leaders have
the power to either uphold or trample carelessly over our Lady Liberty's
    sacred Freedom of Religion rights!

Pagans today must stand up to be loud and proud, seen and heard, active and
alert. We shall never be made to feel that we must hide in the broom closet
again. We shall never be denied our freedoms, or discriminated against
because of our ancient and honorable religion again. We shall never be a
silent and invisible minority again. We shall never allow our rights to be
endangered by those who were voted into power by others while we did nothing
    again!

We shall be warriors in Lady Liberty's service! We shall vote! So Vote It
    Be!

".we hold talisman by which to show the right of all classes to the ballot,
to remove every obstacle, to answer every objection, to point out the
tyranny of every qualification to the free exercise of this sacred right."
    Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Pagan Unity Campaign loudly and proudly held our 4th annual "I AM" post
card campaign on Summer Solstice 2004. We would like to thank the Pagan
community for their support and assistance in this very important bit of
    political activism

In cooperation with PUC, the pagan community as a whole, sent tens of
thousands of post cards to our elected officials in Washington. They were
signed with one simple statement, "I am a Pagan." With this clear and
powerful message we spoke with one united voice announcing once again to
Washington that the Pagan rights movement is growing in Lady Liberty's land
of the free, and it is here to stay.

PUC would also like to remind our fellow Pagan political activism
warriors that we are continuing our two-year "So Vote It Be" campaign. "So
Vote It Be" is PUC's voter education and registration drive. We launched the
"So Vote It Be" campaign on July 4th, 2002 and it will be on-going until
Election Day 2004, when we hope the voice of Pagan voters is heard louder
    and clearer than ever before.

    SO VOTE IT BE!

"IAm4" Campaign Prepares for Launch Worldwide.

ANYONE. ANYWHERE. can help us to promote religious diversity and tolerance by joining the Pagan Unity Campaign in this simple bit of activism.

On June 20, 2004, PUC (Pagan Unity Campaign, a political activism cooperative) will launch our 4th annual "I Am" campaign, alerting government officials of the impressive number of Pagan citizens in their districts. As in the past 3 years, post cards sent to Washington on summer solstice should state "I am a Pagan..fill in the blank with a title, job, or such noun.." (i.e. I am a Pagan Homemaker" or "I am a Pagan Artist." or "I am a Pagan soldier.")

We invite everyone's support! Even non-US citizens can join us in sending these messages to the leader of the free world, the President of the United States. Simply alter the message to read; (i.e. "I am a Pagan Mexican." or "I Am a British Pagan.") Even non-Pagans can join is as supporters as well, simply altering the 'I am a Pagan.' message to state instead; (i.e."I am the Christian mom of a Pagan teacher!" or "I am the Jewish friend of a Pagan lawyer!" or "I am a Hindu Supporter of Pagan friends.")

We ask everyone everywhere to join us in this display of support for Lady Liberty's sacred right of religious freedom!

    Lady Liberty wants you!

During the week of Summer Solstice (June 20th), PUC will host our 4th annual I AM post card campaign. The post cards are to state clearly and simply "I am a Pagan ----fill in the blank---" (For example; Mother, police officer, kindergarten teacher, writer, veteran, little league coach.) These cards should be sent during the week of Summer Solstice, just like in previous years, when we estimated that tens of thousands of our IAM post cards from Pagans reached the American leaders. We want to even increase those impressive figures this year for the IAM4 campaign!

PUC asks all of our fellow Pagan Americans to join together in this simple but powerful call-to-action to further the awareness of and respect for the Pagan religions by our elected officials in Washington DC!

You can use any local attraction's post cards or the printable post cards on the PUC web site. The addresses you'll need are below.

  • For Immediate Release.

    From: The Pagan Unity Campaign
Subject: HR 1547 Legislation that endangers Religious Freedom
    Date: Saturday, May 15th, 2004
    Contact: Ginger@PaganUnityCampaign.org

The House of Representatives has, in the name of “restor[ing] first amendment protections of religion and religious speech,” begun work on unraveling the exact protections that we in the PUC and in the larger Pagan Community have, and removing any and all recourse beyond our own local government in assuring our own religious freedoms in HR 1547.
Tax dollars should never be used to discriminate against any citizen because of their religion or religious beliefs, nor should taxes be used to promote one set of beliefs in any way shape or form. To allow such would be both unconstitutional and morally wrong.
HR 1547 would be a huge step backwards on civil rights protections in our country, paving the way to establishing religious endorsements by the government, and discriminating against those who do not practice those endorsed religions. Promoting certain religions above others has no place within our government, and we need to make certain our representatives in Washington know we want them to vote against HR 1547.

Addresses to your representatives can be found by entering your ZIP code at http://www.house.gov/

Compose your own letter, or feel free to use this sample form letter below:

    Dear (insert title here),

As your constituent, I find HR 1547 to be a government endorsement of religion, blatantly violating the First and Fourteenth Amendments and authorizing government-funded discrimination, demonstrating a preference for one religion’s foundations, and excluding others.

It is inappropriate in the extreme for religious organizations to use government facilities, paid for with government funds, to display one single faith's dogma and symbol. What of those who don’t find the Ten Commandments among their religious foundations, or who do not pray, or pray differently? What of those who would find themselves intimidated and excluded as a result of these being displayed by their government? What of their rights to have a government that will make no law respecting the establishment of religion, and provide equal protection to them, as guaranteed by the First and Fourteenth Amendments to the Constitution of the United States?

Taxpayer dollars should not be used to discriminate against any citizen because of their religion or religious beliefs, nor should they be used to promote one set of beliefs in any way shape or form. To allow such would be both unconstitutional and morally wrong.

HR 1547 constitutes just that kind of action, and a huge step backwards on civil rights protections in our country.
I wholeheartedly urge the United States House of Representatives not to start paving the way for religious discrimination in our country, where freedom of religion means freedom for all religions. Religion has no place within our government, and I, as your constituent urge you to vote against HR 1547.

    Sincerely,
    (insert name here)

    Date: May 9th
    Contact: Ginger@PaganUnityCampaign.org

In honor of our Attorney General's birthday and his recent survived health crisis, we at PUC are encouraging others in the Pagan community to join us in wishing Mr. Ashcroft a "Happy Birthday from Pagan Citizens" on May 9th . Please send a respectful and polite birthday card to Mr. Ashcroft with the message 'Happy Birthday Mr. Ashcroft from Pagan Citizens!' (No 'over the hill' or other spoof type cards or of course no rude cards…we want to show Mr. Ashcroft our large numbers and our good-natured religious spirit of kindness---not our personal opinions of him.) The address to mail these cards to our Attorney General is below.

Let's be sure the Attorney General knows how many Pagan citizens are out here in Lady Liberty's land, and that we all are thinking about him!

    Date: March 8th, 2004
    Contact: Ginger@PaganUnityCampaign.org

As a part of the Pagan Unity Campaign's ongoing 'SO VOTE IT BE' voter registration and education campaign, PUC would like to
encourage the Pagan community to get out and vote in this year's
national presidential election in November. We'd like to suggest the Pagan community strive to get more of our community registered and encouraged to vote in November this year, than ever have participated in the election process before. It is important that all citizens use their sacred right to vote, but even more so for those of us in repressed minority groups, who are fighting constantly for our civil rights to be upheld within Lady liberty's great free country.
In the words of one of the USA's foremothers; "We can make a manifestation by going to the polls, at each returning election." Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902)
Please help Pagan Unity Campaign in our work to ensure the voices of Pagan voters will be heard loud and clear in November!

  • Joint Statement For Immediate Release
    Date: February 25, 2004
Subject: Child Custody cases in Alabama

The Pagan Unity Campaign, and the Alliance of Pagan Voters, in a joint motion would like to state categorically that we will support and defend the rights of Pagan citizens with any and all legal means available to us, against the use of Pagan faiths( Paganism, Witchcraft, Wicca, Druidism,Asatru etc) as a "charge" specified in legal cases of custody such as those currently underway in Dothan Alabama. Further we protest the inclusion of the term Pagan, Witch, or Wiccan, as a specification in divorce and other such issues decided by the courts of the United States, unless and until it can be proven that the faith alone bears responsibility. Usage of the legitimate faith of another as grounds to question his or her legal custody, emotional stability, or parenting skills, is unacceptable, and a bigotry of the highest order.
The parenting of a child is a most serious matter, as is his or her welfare.
That welfare is no less served by the introduction of a Pagan faith, than it is by the introduction of a mainstream Christian faith.
To permit the use of Paganism as a grounds for a change in the custodial care of a child is no less heinous than the use of Christianity for the same reason.

Wicca and Witchcraft are legitimate faiths and paths, recognized as such by the United States of America, provided for by our constitution two centuries ago.
They are not grounds in child custody or divorce cases, failing to be reprehensible in any form. They are assuredly not criminal offenses, nor reasons in and of themselves to question the custody and care of a child.

The use of a legitimate faith, or religion should not be part and parcel of those things which might legitimately cause the removal of a child to a non-custodial parent.

For this reason alone we decry its usage in this context, and will seek to assist those who find themselves victim to this type bigotry.
